Before you buy
- Define what your customers want to buy before comparing supplier offers.
- Check product evidence, quoting details and resale support separately.
- Use a manageable first purchase to assess the complete buying experience.
Begin with the purchase you want to make
The right supplier depends on what you intend to sell. A shop completing customers’ singles lists needs specific cards and clear condition information. A livestream seller planning openings needs the correct sealed edition, packaging and quantity. A reseller listing unopened boxes needs enough product detail to describe exactly what the buyer will receive.
Write down your next buying goal before comparing offers. Include your sales channel, requested products, destination and the questions your own customers are asking. This gives each supplier the same practical problem to answer.
Ask for evidence that supports your selling plan
A shop choosing showcase cards needs condition photographs or, for graded items, the actual grade and certification. A reseller buying a lot needs its card list or agreed composition, duplicate limits and substitution process. A case purchase needs the release, box count and sealing details.
Use those requirements to assess whether the proposed purchase is clear enough to describe to your customers. Ask the supplier to resolve a missing reference or packaging detail before treating two offers as equivalent. Raw-card condition evidence supports your assessment; it does not guarantee a grading result.
Match the product range to that goal
Check card language and format early. A supplier describing Chinese Pokémon cards may need you to specify Simplified Chinese. For singles, add the card number and version; for sealed products, name the product and ordering unit.
For example, “Simplified Chinese Pikachu, 151C 171/151” is more precise than “Pikachu cards”. That reference helps identify the card, but the quantity, condition and current supply still need a reply. Ask about suitable alternatives only when they would serve the same customer need.
Separate product evidence from supplier claims
Confirm which business will quote and handle the order. If a supplier describes itself as an official or authorised distributor, ask for evidence of that particular status. Selling Pokémon products and holding an official appointment are different claims.
For the merchandise itself, request the references and photographs needed to understand the item. Establish whether images show the goods being quoted or are representative. Keep unresolved questions visible in the conversation instead of assuming a familiar logo or product name answers them.
Think through receiving and reselling
Ask what information can accompany the goods so you can prepare accurate listings. If you want to reuse the supplier’s photographs or descriptions, confirm permission and any conditions rather than copying them automatically.
Clarify how delivery arrangements, payment and additional charges will be agreed. Ask how to report a shortage, damage or a mismatch with the quoted item, and what supporting information would be needed. These answers help you plan receiving checks and communicate responsibly with your own buyers.
Keep a short comparison record
Use the same checklist for each conversation. Record the answer or mark the point for follow-up; a blank field should not become an assumed promise.

Assess the first purchase as a whole
Discuss a starting selection that fits your sales plan, budget and the supplier’s actual order requirements. Evaluate the accuracy of the quote, communication and goods received, then compare that experience with how the products performed for your customers.
